At the wedding of USMC Sgt. Joshua Newville and Senior Airman Emily Leehan, guests expected a traditional celebration of love and commitment. However, the event took a deeply emotional turn when Emily, during the ceremony, surprised everyone by reading vows not only to her new husband but also to her 4-year-old stepson, Gage. This unexpected gesture left an indelible mark on everyone in the room.
The little boy, already excited to see his father marry, had a special bond with his soon-to-be stepmom. Emily’s words to Gage were full of warmth and sincerity. Looking directly at the child, she said, “I want you to be safe, to try your hardest, and to always be a good person.” Her heartfelt promises overwhelmed the young boy, and soon his face was streaked with tears as he clung to Emily for comfort.
The room was filled with emotion as Emily gently tried to soothe Gage, telling him, “Don’t cry, baby.” Her voice quivered with emotion as she continued, “You are so smart, kind, and handsome. I may not have given you the gift of life, but life gave me the gift of you.” This tender moment captured the hearts of everyone present, leaving many guests wiping away tears.
As the couple exchanged vows, the bond between Emily and Gage was solidified in a way that would last a lifetime. While Joshua and Emily were filled with joy, they had to forgo their honeymoon as duty called them back to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Nevertheless, the emotional vows, especially the ones shared with Gage, created a memory that would remain in the hearts of all who witnessed it.
