On Sunday, December 8, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Officer Jacob Candanoza, Badge Number 6190, conducted a traffic stop in the 1600 block of S. State Highway 34. During the stop, Officer Candanoza requested backup, prompting dispatch to send additional units. Shortly after this request, the Terrell Police Department Communications Division received two emergency 9-1-1 calls reporting that an officer had been shot. A citizen’s radio transmission confirmed the same information.
First responders, including officers, the Terrell Fire Department, and CareFlite, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that Officer Candanoza had sustained critical injuries. Emergency medical care was provided, and he was transported to Baylor Scott and White in Forney. Tragically, despite efforts to save him, Officer Candanoza succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Candanoza joined the Terrell Police Department in July 2024. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones as they face this devastating loss. The entire community mourns alongside them during this time of sorrow.
