A disturbing incident occurred in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, when residents of an apartment building in Saint-Étienne heard what sounded like the cries of a baby during the night. The unsettling sounds were heard around 4:30 a.m. on the weekend of March 23-24, 2024, and the residents, alarmed by the noise, immediately began searching the building to locate the source of the cries.
As they emerged from their apartments, they were horrified to discover blood stains along the floor. The blood trail led them through the hallways to the building’s trash room, a corridor that connected to the basement areas. The situation became even more alarming when it became clear that the baby had likely just been born, judging by the fresh blood and cries that continued to echo through the building.
Concerned for the infant’s well-being, the neighbors quickly contacted emergency services, fearing that the baby might be in critical condition. The blood, along with the sound of a crying infant, raised immediate concerns that the child might have been abandoned shortly after birth, potentially in a vulnerable state. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, a team from the Départemental Fire and Rescue Service of Loire (SDIS) and Loire Samu found the infant in a hypothermic condition and still attached to the umbilical cord. Despite the initial signs of distress, the medical team quickly stabilized the child and provided the necessary care. According to reports from France Bleu, the infant’s health was soon confirmed to be stable, with no immediate risk to their life.
The baby was then transported to the CHU of Saint-Étienne hospital, where they were placed under further medical observation. An investigation was promptly launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s abandonment, and authorities worked to uncover who might be responsible for such a distressing act.
